Did you know that…

…Zimex played an important  role in fighting the Cassava Pest in Africa in the 1980s?

During the 1980s, mealy bugs infested the cassava or manioc, an important staple food in Africa. The only known means to fight the pest was the introduction of a parasitic wasp. For this purpose, a Zimex twin turboprop aircraft was fitted with a specifically developed dispenser to distribute the wasps during the flight. For seven years, Zimex crews operated in the affected area south of the Sahara, between Atlantic and Indian Ocean, until the pest was contained and the cassava saved in 1991.
